Taxonomy
Rhizophyllum was named by Lindström (1866) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov-m D Emsi]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cystiphyllidae by Hill (1956); to Goniophyllidae by Merriam (1973) and Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).

C. W. Merriam 1973Calceoloid rugose corals with operculum; interior occupied by cystiphylloid dissepiments and tabellae. Septa short and limited to flat side; counter septum commonly longer and more prominent. Radicifonn processes occasionally present.
