Taxonomy
Bellerophon carinatus was named by de Sowerby and Murchison (1839) [de Sowerby in Murchison 1839]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Cymbularia carinata by Reed (1921) and Peel (1977); it was recombined as Bucaniopsis carinatus by Pitcher (1939); it was recombined as Ptychosphaera carinata by Wagner (2023).
