Taxonomy
Sparnotheriodon was named by Soria (1980) [The reference actually states that the type species is S. epsiolondois, but this is obviously a typo (as another spelling is used everywhere else)]. It is not extant. Its type is Sparnotheriodon epsilonoides. It is the type genus of Sparnotheriodontidae.

It was assigned to Sparnotheriodontidae by Soria (1980) and Cifelli (1983).
