Chlamys williamsoni was named by Zittel (1864) [Age: Whaingaroan (Early Oligocene) Genus: probably not Chlamys; possibly Talochlamys? (pers. comm. A.G. Beu, 2003) Further information in Beu and Maxwell (1990) [A. Hendy]].

It was recombined as Talochlamys williamsoni by Hendy (2007).
