Zeacumantus was named by Finlay (1926) [Age: Tongaporutuan-Recenet (early Late Miocene to Recent) See Beu and Maxwell (1990) for further information [A. Hendy]]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Batillaria (Zeacumantus) by Ladd (1972).

It was assigned to Batillariinae by MacNeil (1960); to Batillaria by Ladd (1972); to Potamididae by Beu et al. (1990); and to Batillariidae by Wilson (1993).
