Proscala americana was named by Wade (1926) [m. kosnik taxon no: 3128
also Kosnik's taxon 2322 (duplicate entry)]. Its type locality is Dave Weeks place, Coon Creek, which is in a Campanian coastal sandstone in the Ripley Formation of Tennessee.
It was recombined as Acirsa (Hemiacirsa) americana by Sohl (1964).
