Scalaria unilineata was named by Heilprin (1880) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is USNM 8920, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Scala unilineata by Aldrich (1897); it was recombined as Acrilla unilineata by Harris and Palmer (1947), Palmer and Brann (1966) and Kosnik (2002).
