Amathinidae was named by Ponder (1987) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7686]. It is extant. Its type is Amathina.

It was assigned to Pyramidellacea by Ponder and Warén (1988) and Beesley (1998); and to Pyramidelloidea by Todd (2001) and Hendy et al. (2008).
