Arca inaequivalvis was named by Bruguierre (1789) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; Indonesia.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Scapharca.

It was recombined as Arca (Scapharca) inaequivalvis by Oostingh (1935); it was recombined as Anadara (Scapharca) inaequivalvis by Jung (1965); it was recombined as Scapharca inaequivalvis by Skwarko (1994).
