Solarium alveatum was named by Conrad (1833) [TYPE LOCALITY: Eoceen, Southeastern United States].

It was recombined as Architectonica (Stellaxis) alveatum by Woodring (1959); it was recombined as Architectonica (Stellaxis) alveata by Clark and Durham (1946), Harris and Palmer (1947) and Kosnik (2002).
