Assimineidae was named by Adams and Adams (1856) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5454]. It is extant. Its type is Assiminea.

It was assigned to Rissooidea by Beesley (1998) and Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Truncatelloidea by Ponder and Warén (1988), Criscione and Ponder (2013), Bouchet et al. (2017) and Bullis et al. (2020).
