Taxonomy
Arca rhomboidella was named by Lea (1833). Its type specimen is ANSP 5306, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Barbatia (Scapharca) rhomboidella by Harris and Palmer (1946); it was recombined as Barbatia (Plagiarca) rhomboidella by Reinhart (1935), Palmer and Brann (1965), Kosnik (2002) and Kosnik (2002).
