Barleeiidae was named by Gray (1857) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7654]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Truncatelloidea by Ponder and Warén (1988); and to Rissooidea by Beesley (1998), Todd (2001), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Bouchet et al. (2017).
