Taxonomy
Parapoulpus was named by Kozur and Mostler (1979) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn Sepkoski's reference number: 938]. Its type is Parapoulpus oertlii.

It was synonymized subjectively with Poulpus by O'Dogherty et al. (2009).

It was assigned to Poulpidae by De Wever et al. (2001); and to Nassellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
