Rostellaria velata was named by Conrad (1833) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6617]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jackson, which is in an Eocene coastal horizon in Mississippi.
It was recombined as Calyptraphorus velata by Conrad (1858); it was recombined as Calyptraphorus velatus by Maury (1912), Harris and Palmer (1947) and Kosnik (2002).
