Venus scripta was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Plio-Pleistocene-Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Circe scripta by Oostingh (1935), Hashimoto (1982) and Wilson (2002); it was recombined as Circe (Circe) scripta by Rosenberg et al. (2006).
