Cirridae was named by Cossmann (1916) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5267]. Its type is Cirrinae.

It was assigned to Amberleyacea by Knight et al. (1960); to Trochidae by Jeffery (2003); to Porcellioidea by Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Cirroidea by Ferrari (2014) and Wagner (2023).
