Cypraea erosa was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic-Recent; Indo=Pacific. COMMENTS: m. kosnik taxon no: 9770]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Erosaria erosa by Troschel (1863) and Meyer (2004); it was recombined as Erosaria (Erosaria) erosa by Schilder (1941) and MacNeil (1960); it was recombined as Cypraea (Erosaria) erosa by Abrard (1946) and Okutaini (2000); it was recombined as Naria erosa by Salvat et al. (2018).
