Cypraea tigris was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Recent; Indo-Pacific. COMMENTS: m. kosnik taxon no: 10470]. It is extant. It is the type species of Cypraea, Cypraea (Cypraea).
It was recombined as Cypraea (Cypraea) tigris by Montfort (1810) and Ladd (1977); it was recombined as Vulgusella tigris by Jousseaume (1884).
