Timania was named by Shtukenberg (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: C Bash C Step-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1240]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Cyathopsidae by Hill (1956); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Bothrophyllidae by Hill (1981) and Wang et al. (2006).
