Dattidae was named by Healey (1908) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5109].

It was reranked as the subfamily Dattinae by Carter et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Pteriacea by Newell (1965) and Vokes (1980); to Isognomoidea by Nevesskaja (2009); to Pteriidae by Carter et al. (2011); and to Pterioidea by Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
