Elachisinidae was named by Ponder (1985) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7659]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Rissooidea by Beesley (1998), Todd (2001) and Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Truncatelloidea by Ponder and Warén (1988) and Bouchet et al. (2017).
