Erodonidae was named by Winckworth (1932). It is extant. Its type is Erodona.

It was reranked as the family Erodoninae by Carter et al. (2011).

It was assigned to Myacea by Newell (1965) and Vokes (1980); to Corbuloidea by Nevesskaja (2009); to Myoidea by Bouchet et al. (2010); and to Corbulidae by Carter et al. (2011).
