Fissurellacea was named by Fleming (1822) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6068 m. kosnik taxon no: 7638].

It was corrected as Fissurelloidea by Beesley (1998), Todd (2001), Lozouet et al. (2001), Kosnik (2002) and Bouchet et al. (2005).

It was assigned to Archaeogastropoda by Ward and Blackwelder (1987) and Beu et al. (1990); to Pleurotomariina by Knight et al. (1960), Kosnik (2002) and Kosnik (2002); and to Vetigastropoda by Beesley (1998), Todd (2001), Lozouet et al. (2001) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
