Taxonomy
Gyrodes canadensis was named by Whiteaves (1903) [m. kosnik taxon no: 9654]. Its type specimen is CGS 5777 and is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Gyrodes (Sohlella).

It was recombined as Gyrodes (Sohlella) canadensis by Popenoe et al. (1987) and Dockery (1993).

Popenoe et al. 1987Shell thin, small to medium sized, spire about 22% of total height; suture appressed, at posterior one-third of penultimate whorl; shoulder sharply tabulate with concave band adapically and broad slightly concave zone abapically; whorl profile roundly inflated abapical to the concave zone; umbilical margin roundly biangulate; umbilicus comma-form, sides sloping; growth line obliquely prosocline with antispiral flexure at the umbilical angulation; aperture oblique, tear-drop shaped; outer lip thin, projected posteriorly; inner lip thin, wrapped onto the last whorl at the outer umbilical angulation.
