Gyrodinae was named by Wenz (1941) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6394].

It was assigned to Ampullospirinae by Wenz (1941), Marincovich (1977) and Kabat (1991); and to Naticidae by Sohl (1964), Gliozzi and Malatesta (1983), Popenoe et al. (1987), Dockery (1993) and Matsubara et al. (2010).
