Taxonomy
Haliotidae was named by Rafinesque (1815) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5286]. It is extant. It is the type family of Haliotoidea.

It was assigned to Pleurotomarioidea by Beesley (1998); to Pleurotomariacea by Knight et al. (1960) and Kosnik (2002); and to Haliotoidea by Lozouet et al. (2001), Jeffery (2003) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
