Haliris was named by Dall (1886) [m. kosnik taxon no: 8740]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Verticordia (Haliris) by Dall (1903) and Harris (1919).

It was assigned to Verticordia by Dall (1903) and Harris (1919); and to Verticordiidae by Cox et al. (1969), Vokes (1980), Jung (1996), Lamprell and Healy (1998) and Wienrich (1999).
