Xenocyathellus was named by Bassler (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Paleocyclidae by Bassler (1937); to Hadrophyllidae by Hill (1956); to Homalophyllinae by Hill (1981); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
