Imbricariinae was named by Troschel (1868) [m. kosnik taxon no: 8236].

It was corrected as Imbricarinae by Swainson (1831).

It was assigned to Mitridae by Swainson (1831), Ponder and Warén (1988), Olivera and Camacho (1990), Wilson (1993), Davoli (2000), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
