Yokoyamaella was named by Minato and Kato (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: P Asse P Djhu Sepkoski's reference number: 893].

It was assigned to Waagenophyllinae by Hill (1981); to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kepingophyllidae by Nestell and Stevens (2013).
