Lamellariidae was named by d'Orbigny (1841) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5413].

It was reranked as the subfamily Lamellariinae by Bouchet et al. (2005) and Bouchet et al. (2017).

It was assigned to Lamellarioidea by Ponder and Warén (1988); and to Velutinidae by Bouchet et al. (2005) and Bouchet et al. (2017).
