Leptonidae was named by Gray (1847) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5174]. It is extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Lasaeidae by Bouchet et al. (2010).
It was assigned to Leptonacea by Glenn (1904) and Newell (1965); to Chamacea by Ward and Blackwelder (1987); to Galeommatacea by Vokes (1980) and Beu et al. (1990); to Galeommatoidea by Rosenberg (2005); and to Leptonoidea by Nevesskaja (2009).
