Byssomya petricoloides was named by Lea (1833) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6527]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Solemya petricoloides by Clark (1895); it was recombined as Lithophaga petricoloides by Harris (1919) and Kosnik (2002).
