Murex vanuxemi was named by Conrad (1865) [NOMENCLATURE: Murex vanuxemi Conrad 1834 is nomen nudum. COMMENTS: m. kosnik taxon no: 6991]. Its type specimen is ANSP 13756, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Hexaplex (Paziella) vanuxemi by Glibert (1963); it was recombined as Hexaplex (Hexaplex) vanuxemi by Vokes (1968).
