Murex vanuxemi silvaticus was named by Palmer (1937) [m. kosnik taxon no: 1428]. Its type specimen is PRI 3003, a partial shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Hexaplex (Paziella) vanuxemi silvaticus by Glibert (1963); it was recombined as Hexaplex (Hexaplex) silvaticus by Vokes (1968).
