Myrteinae was named by Chavan (1969) [m. kosnik taxon no: 9244]. It is extant. Its type is Myrtea.

It was assigned to Lucinidae by Cox et al. (1969), Moore (1976), Vokes (1980), Ward (1992) and Carter et al. (2011).
