Allocoenia was named by Etallon (1858) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath-l J Tith]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Actinastraeidae by Roniewicz (1976) and Turnsek (1997); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
