Allocoeniopsis was named by Alloiteau (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett J Call Sepkoski's reference number: 183,833,919].

It was assigned to Actinastraeidae by Fischer (1969) and Beauvais (1986); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
