It was assigned to Tetrabranchiata by Martin (1904); and to Cephalopoda by Harris and Palmer (1947), Sweet (1958), Teichert et al. (1964), Adegoke (1977), Squires (1984), Wells and Houston (2001), Evans (2005), Boyle and Rodhouse (2005), Landman et al. (2007), Evans (2011), Lehmann et al. (2016) and Pohle et al. (2022).
