Nerita albicilla was named by Linnaeus (1758) [m. kosnik taxon no: 7181]. It is the type species of Nerita (Theliostyla).

It was recombined as Nerita (Theliostyla) albicilla by Vokes (1983) and Landau et al. (2016).
