Amphiphora was named by Alloiteau and Bernier (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: J Sepkoski's reference number: 658]. It is not extant. Its type is Amphiphora serannensis.

It was assigned to Cyathophoridae by Alloiteau and Bernier (1969); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
