Oocorythidae was named by Fischer (1885) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5448]. It is extant. Its type is Oocorys.

It was reranked as the subfamily Oocorythinae by Bouchet et al. (2005), Beu (2008) and Beu (2010).

It was assigned to Tonnidae by Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Cassidae by Ponder and Warén (1988), Beu (2008) and Beu (2010).
