Anomastraea was named by Marenzeller (1901) [Sepkoski's age data: K Apti R Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Siderastreidae by Wells (1956); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Coscinaraeidae by Benzoni et al. (2012).
