Turritella alveata was named by Conrad (1854) [m. kosnik taxon no: 6872]. Its type locality is Jackson, which is in an Eocene coastal horizon in Mississippi.
It was recombined as Palmerella alveata by Allmon (1996); it was recombined as Kapalmerella alveata by Warren (2005).
