Aplopsammia was named by Alloiteau (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi K Ceno Sepkoski's reference number: 658]. It is not extant. Its type is Aplopsammia collignoni.

It was assigned to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dendrophylliidae by Baron-Szabo (2002).
