Aplosmilia was named by d'Orbigny (1849) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo-l K Sant-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Aplosmiliinae by Geyer (1955); to Rhipidogyridae by Roniewicz (1976); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhipidogyrinae by Pandey and Fürsich (2003).
