Taxonomy
Archaeosmilia was named by Melnikova (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett J Plie-u Sepkoski's reference number: 682,919]. It is not extant. Its type is Archaeosmilia beata. It is the type genus of Archaeosmiliidae.

It was assigned to Zardinophyllidae by Beauvais (1986); to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002); and to Archaeosmiliidae by Melnikova and Roniewicz (2020).
