Taxonomy
Callocardiidae was named by Dall (1895). It is extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Veneridae by Bieler and Mikkelsen (2006); it was reranked as the subtribe Callocardiina by Carter et al. (2011); it was reranked as the subfamily Callocardiinae by Bouchet et al. (2010) and Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
It was assigned to Meretricini by Carter et al. (2011); and to Veneridae by Bouchet et al. (2010) and Coan and Valentich-Scott (2012).
