Astroides was named by Quoy and Gaimard (1827) [Sepkoski's age data: Q Plei R Sepkoski's reference number: 796]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Dendrophylliidae by Wells (1956); and to Scleractinia by Sepkoski (2002).
